ABOUT US

Working under the direction of Preston Moore, Ray Patterson was poised to take the helm of Preston Moore Oil Co. after it’s incorporation in 1976. For years prior, Patterson had served as a route driver and quickly saw his duties evolving into a management role within the company. With a knack for developing solid business relationships, Patterson experienced success and grew the company from a bulk distribution plant to also operating three convenience stores located in Bennettsville. Following suit in 1983, Patterson’s nephew Mickey would join in the family business as a route driver and later see his role expand as well. Mickey was tabbed to be the store manager overseeing operation of the company’s Auto Fountain locations. In 1989, it was Ray Patterson’s daughter, Janet Sides’ turn to join the family business as Patterson underwent a health scare and needed help managing the office in his recovery. Janet quickly became an integral part of Preston Moore Oil Co. being immersed in the day-to-day operations of the business. In 1992, more family assistance was on the way. Janet’s husband Rusty Sides answered the call to join the business in an operations role. Splitting time as a route driver and managing the inventory at the company’s bulk plant and Auto Fountains, Rusty quickly learned the inner workings of the fuel business that would lead to future successes working along side his bride. Later in 2005, Janet and Rusty fully took over the day-to-day operations of Preston Moore Oil Co. as President and Vice President respectively as Patterson wished to enjoy more of his time away from the office. When looking to expand the business into adjacent counties to Marlboro and into the Pee Dee region, another family member was set to join the team. This time it was Patterson’s grandson, son of Janet and Rusty, Raymond Sides. Raymond’s arrival coincided with the purchase of new equipment, mainly two new deliver trucks that could transport product to new areas for Preston Moore Oil Co. And new areas would be exactly where the company would go. In January 2022, the Sides decided to align with Marlboro Development Team, a wholly owned, for-profit subsidiary of Marlboro Electric Cooperative. In an acquisition, MDT, a South Carolina-based developer and operator focused on single tenant build-to-suits, value-add acquisitions and strategic investments throughout the U.S. With over 100 years of collective development experience purchased Preston Moore Oil Co. and it’s assets to now be known as MPD Energy, LLC. There is a certain nostalgia that you will feel when you step on property at MPD Energy and doing business with the team. The inviting feeling of what began as a growing family business is what customers will experience under the service and care of MPD Energy.
